Lorraine Leivas Upstairs Art Gallery Artist

Artist's Statement
Plein air painting for me is reacting in a spontaneous way to the view I see. I feel an excitement and immediacy when working from life that I do not feel when working from photographs or even sketches. I love painting from life as I feel it captures life itself. I do my best painting when I paint intuitively.

Description of Work
One of a rare breed of true plein air artists, Lorraine Leivas paints landscapes on locaiton because she loves to capture color and light. Her paintings sing with the rich natural beauty and unique character of Sonoma County. It is clear from her work that Lorraine considers nature a gift. Her vibrant paintings share with the viewer of some energy she takes in while working outdoors. And because she paints nearly everyday, she maintains a substantial body of work both in private collections and on exhibit in various west coast galleries. She works in both oil and acrylic and also watercolor on paper. Because she paints on location, most of her pieces range from 9"x12" to 22"x28".

Lorraine is an award-winning California plein air landscape painter producing fine art for over 40 years. Her works appear in many private collections both in and out of California.
